The other day I heard the most
beautiful lyrics . . .hauntingly beautiful . . .this song was stuck in my head,
I hummed it, I learned the words, I listened to the original artist sing it, I
heard another group sing it, I saw a dance troupe dance to it . . .you may even
say I was mildly obsessed with this song. I found out it was a part of a movie
soundtrack so I started gathering info about the movie.
"Thousand years"
"heart beats fast, colors and
promises, how to be brave how can I love when I'm afraid . . ."
huh? so this person is scared but
intrigued by someone or something’s beauty and promises. They are figuring out
how to be brave how to love anyway when their afraid to fall (as in go down . .
.no one falls up)
". . . when
I'm afraid to love but watching you stand alone, all of my doubts suddenly go
away somehow, One step closer"
So this person is afraid to fall in
love with something but the more she focuses solely on it the doubts disappear
and they are one step closer (to what?)
"I have died everyday waiting
for you, darling’ don't be afraid I have loved you for a thousand years, I'll
love you for a thousand more"
Now this line is tricky. At first
glance I said "wow, just as we must die daily to ourselves to be a part of
Christ . . . but that is not the sentiment here. Christ died one time- a long
time ago- and it was finished. He doesn't need to die every day. I haven't been
around to love for a thousand years so it couldn't be talking about me. So what
exactly is being said? This vampire (which is a soul that died but roams the
earth forever feeding off the life of someone else-that's where the blood comes
in-) has died daily and he's saying that he'll be around to love for another
thousand years.
Hmmmm. Spirits are immortal but I do
not believe in good demons/vampires. Do you believe demons can be good? The
word wicked comes from the root word wicker which means to be twisted. ie
wicker furniture (furniture from twisted wood)
So in this movie the
"good" vampires still require blood, but animal blood not human
blood, like the "bad" vampires. The Bible says that Jesus was the
ultimate atonement for our sins. We don't have to sacrifice animals, people, or
do anything with blood and we certainly don't need to drink it to sustain life.
He is our sustainer and His sacrifice was enough.
Now before I go any further this
blog is not about damning people to hell because they watched a movie. It's
about being aware of how truth is twisted. When Satan approached Eve in the
garden he, didn't flat out lie to Eve, he twisted the truth and caused both of
them to be disobedient to the instructions God gave. While I have heard a few
praise the series for the fact that the characters didn't have sex until they
were married, we must look at the big picture and that one positive does not
negate the negatives and danger of this series.
The enemy comes as a beautiful angel
of light. I don't find it strange that the author says the movie came to her in
a dream where a sparkly beautiful vampire was talking to an ordinary girl. The
enemy is after our ordinary because he knows that when God gets a hold of us we
can do extraordinary things. This has definitely made young people more curious
about the occult and it's up to us to take a stand and boldly educate. Yes
there are sects in our culture that identify themselves as vampires, (some even
drink blood) and feel they need to take the energy/life of others to survive.
(If you don't believe me google it, and don't be surprised if you find several
in your own community) this is not acceptable. There are no good vampires just
as there are no good demons. Dibbling and dabbling in the occult will open the
door to the demonic. There, I said it, and that's the truth.
Parents, your children are the most
precious gifts God has given you. It is our responsibility to guard their
hearts, minds, and be gatekeepers until they are able to do it themselves. Be
informed. Don't just go with the flow because society will have your child
thinking abortions are ok because it's "their body", and that gay behavior
is acceptable (notice I said the behavior is not acceptable. I want to be clear
that God has called us to love all people) and that drugs, alcohol,
weed, cigarettes, are ok, (it's legal right?) etc. It's up to us to raise a
generation that is separate and set apart. How will people know there needs to
be a change when WE (the body of Christ) look just. like. them.
I Peter 2:9- For we are
a chosen generation a royal priest hood a holy nation a peculiar people that
should show forth the praises of him. For he has called us out of darkness into
his marvelous light.
I do believe there is something about this movie that just draws you in and
captivates you. But we have to ask ourselves; “What is it?” Is this something that we should allow
ourselves to be captivated by?
If your daughter told you she was in love with someone who loved her so much that he constantly fought the urge to kill her, what would your response be? Unless that's the man of your dreams for your baby, maybe this is not the saga for you.
